What it does
BP 04 48 is the general-purpose scheduled additional insured endorsement of the BOP. The person or organization in the Schedule is an additional insured only for bodily injury, property damage or personal and advertising injury caused, in whole or in part, by the named insured's acts or omissions, or those of people acting on its behalf, in the performance of the named insured's ongoing operations or in connection with premises owned by or rented to the named insured.
Who needs it
Used when a customer, event host, franchisor, property owner or other party asks for additional insured status and no class-specific BOP form fits.
Key provisions
- "Caused, in whole or in part, by" wording limits coverage to the additional insured's vicarious or contributory exposure arising from the named insured – not the additional insured's sole negligence.
- Coverage relates to ongoing operations and premises; completed-operations status for contractors requires BP 14 02.
Quoting and selling notes
- Get the contract wording before choosing the form: contractors usually need BP 04 50 / BP 04 51 and BP 14 02; landlords BP 04 02; vendors BP 04 47.
- When contracts require many additional insureds, the blanket form BP 15 83 may be more efficient.
