What it does

CU 34 22 excludes injury or damage arising out of cannabis as defined in the endorsement. ISO filed the umbrella cannabis exclusions with 12 19 editions, and carrier filings now show 12 20 editions. Excess counterpart: CX 21 79.

Who needs it

Retailers, landlords, manufacturers and distributors that may touch cannabis or hemp products, and accounts where carriers attach cannabis exclusions broadly.

How it fits the umbrella

The umbrella has its own exclusions that apply whether or not the underlying policies cover the claim, and many ISO umbrella exclusion endorsements mirror a CGL or auto exclusion so that the umbrella does not drop down where the underlying is excluded. When an underlying policy carries an exclusion, check that the umbrella carries the matching CU endorsement, or explain the gap if it does not.

Quoting and selling notes

  • Ask whether the insured sells CBD or hemp products, leases to cannabis businesses, or provides services to them.
  • ISO also offers cannabis coverage and aggregate-limit endorsements (CU 23 01 to CU 23 03).
