What it does
CU 24 84 is part of ISO's 2026 umbrella revision. It makes the umbrella use the bodily injury definition of the underlying insurance, avoiding a gap where the underlying policy defines bodily injury more broadly than the umbrella. Maine has its own version (CU 24 86).
Who needs it
Accounts whose underlying CGL or auto policy defines bodily injury more broadly than the umbrella.
How it fits the umbrella
ISO umbrella endorsements are listed on the umbrella declarations and change the CU 00 01 coverage form. Many are designed to follow a matching CGL, auto or employers liability endorsement so that the umbrella and the underlying policies respond the same way; when you add the underlying endorsement, ask whether the umbrella needs its counterpart.
Quoting and selling notes
- Compare the bodily injury definitions in the underlying CGL and auto policies with the umbrella.
