What it does

CG 40 01 adds Coverage A and Coverage B exclusions for injury or damage arising directly or indirectly out of the "genetic modification", whether by design or accident, of any organism.

Who needs it

Seed companies, grain handlers, food processors, agricultural operations and biotech labs, where cross-contamination or GMO-related claims could arise.

Key provisions and limits

  • "Genetic modification" means inserting a modified gene, or a gene from another variety or species, into an organism by genetic engineering; traditional plant breeding and grafting are not included.

Quoting and selling notes

  • CG 40 02 applies the same exclusion only to designated operations or products.
  • Ask whether the client sells seed, grows or processes crops, or handles organic certified products, where GMO contamination claims are most likely.
