What it does

CG 35 09 01 26 is the assault or battery exclusion for the Liquor Liability Coverage Part, the companion to CG 40 51 on the CGL. ISO introduced it in its 2025 general liability forms filing (GL-2025-OFR25), approved in most states with a January 1, 2026 effective date, so it can appear on policies written from 2026.

Dram shop claims frequently involve an intoxicated patron who assaults someone; this exclusion targets that link between alcohol service and violence.

Who needs it

Liquor licensees, particularly late-night bars and clubs with entertainment or a history of altercations.

Key provisions and limits

  • Applies to the liquor coverage part; check whether CG 40 51 is also attached to the CGL so both policies are read together.

Quoting and selling notes

  • Ask about security, ID checks, server training and closing procedures.
  • Explain to the client that fights involving intoxicated patrons are a leading source of bar claims; look for markets that offer assault and battery coverage when this form is attached.
