What it does
IH 99 10 adds a Protective Safeguards condition to the Commercial Inland Marine conditions. The insured must maintain the protective devices or services listed in the schedule for each premises, identified by symbols: P-1 automatic sprinkler system, P-2 automatic fire alarm reporting to a central or fire alarm station, P-3 security service with hourly recorded rounds when closed, P-4 contract with a private fire department, P-5 burglar alarm connected to a central station, P-6 local burglar alarm, P-7 holdup or hijack alarm to a central station, P-8 silent tracking device, P-9 private watch persons, and P-10 other protection described.
Who needs it
Accounts where the underwriter relies on protection, such as jewelry and electronics inventory, bailees, computer rooms and stored goods.
Quoting and selling notes
Make sure the insured knows exactly which systems are listed and must stay in service. Failure to maintain them can defeat a claim, so ask how outages and maintenance are handled and notify the carrier of changes.
