What it does
CU 34 54 excludes injury or damage arising out of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances. ISO introduced it in CU-2022-OFR22 with a 05 23 edition; Alaska has its own version (CU 34 57) and the excess counterpart is CX 21 97.
Who needs it
Manufacturers, chemical users, firefighting foam users, water utilities, waste haulers, landfills and carpet, textile and packaging businesses; carriers also attach it broadly.
How it fits the umbrella
The umbrella has its own exclusions that apply whether or not the underlying policies cover the claim, and many ISO umbrella exclusion endorsements mirror a CGL or auto exclusion so that the umbrella does not drop down where the underlying is excluded. When an underlying policy carries an exclusion, check that the umbrella carries the matching CU endorsement, or explain the gap if it does not.
