What it does
The umbrella is an occurrence form. When an underlying policy (for example a claims-made CGL, employee benefits or professional liability policy) is claims-made, CU 27 00 sets the rules for how the umbrella applies to claims made under that underlying coverage. ISO files Colorado, Connecticut and Montana versions.
Who needs it
Accounts with claims-made CGL or other claims-made underlying coverage scheduled under the umbrella.
How it fits the umbrella
ISO umbrella endorsements are listed on the umbrella declarations and change the CU 00 01 coverage form. Many are designed to follow a matching CGL, auto or employers liability endorsement so that the umbrella and the underlying policies respond the same way; when you add the underlying endorsement, ask whether the umbrella needs its counterpart.
Quoting and selling notes
- Match retroactive dates and extended reporting periods between the umbrella and underlying policy.
