What it does
The umbrella's contractual liability exclusion does not apply to "insured contracts", so the definition controls whether liability assumed under a contract (such as an indemnity clause in a construction contract or lease) is covered. CU 24 30 amends that definition. ISO revised it to a 06 26 edition in CU-2025-OFR25.
Who needs it
Accounts whose underlying CGL carries an amended insured contract definition, often contractors working for railroads or under contracts the underwriter restricts.
How it fits the umbrella
ISO umbrella endorsements are listed on the umbrella declarations and change the CU 00 01 coverage form. Many are designed to follow a matching CGL, auto or employers liability endorsement so that the umbrella and the underlying policies respond the same way; when you add the underlying endorsement, ask whether the umbrella needs its counterpart.
Quoting and selling notes
- Compare the underlying CGL's insured contract definition with the umbrella; mismatches can leave contractual indemnity uncovered above the primary.
