What it does
CU 22 37 adapts the umbrella for insureds whose underlying auto coverage is written on the motor carrier coverage form. It amends the umbrella's auto-related provisions to follow the motor carrier policy. ISO revised it to a 12 23 edition in CU-2023-OFR23 and files state versions (for example New Hampshire CU 22 52, Louisiana CU 22 80).
Who needs it
For-hire and private motor carriers: trucking companies, haulers and businesses operating under federal or state motor carrier authority.
How it fits the umbrella
ISO umbrella endorsements are listed on the umbrella declarations and change the CU 00 01 coverage form. Many are designed to follow a matching CGL, auto or employers liability endorsement so that the umbrella and the underlying policies respond the same way; when you add the underlying endorsement, ask whether the umbrella needs its counterpart.
Quoting and selling notes
- Schedule the motor carrier policy as underlying insurance with its exact limits.
- Ask about hired, leased and owner-operator units and interchange agreements (CU 22 36).
