What it does

CU 21 89 excludes injury or damage arising from a covered auto while used as a public or livery conveyance for passengers, matching the underlying auto exclusion. ISO revised it to 12 20.

Who needs it

Businesses whose employees might drive for ride-share platforms in company vehicles, and auto accounts with livery exposure the underwriter will not write.

How it fits the umbrella

The umbrella has its own exclusions that apply whether or not the underlying policies cover the claim, and many ISO umbrella exclusion endorsements mirror a CGL or auto exclusion so that the umbrella does not drop down where the underlying is excluded. When an underlying policy carries an exclusion, check that the umbrella carries the matching CU endorsement, or explain the gap if it does not.

Quoting and selling notes

  • Ask whether vehicles are used for ride-share or delivery apps.
  • CU 21 90 also excludes on-demand delivery services.
