What it does

For the locations in its Schedule, CP 10 55 adds Vandalism to the exclusions of the Basic, Broad or Special Causes of Loss form. Vandalism means willful and malicious damage to, or destruction of, the described property. If vandalism results in a Covered Cause of Loss, that resulting loss is still covered; a fire set by vandals is the common example. The endorsement also removes vandalism from the Broad form collapse coverage, the Special form "specified causes of loss" and the property-in-transit extension.

Who sees it

Underwriters attach it to buildings with poor security or a history of vandalism claims, and sometimes to vacant buildings in place of a vacancy permit. The CP 00 10 vacancy condition already suspends vandalism coverage after 60 days of vacancy. This endorsement removes it regardless of occupancy.

Quoting and selling notes

  • Ask what the client can do to restore coverage: fencing, lighting, alarms, cameras, patrols.
  • Graffiti and broken windows add up. Explain that they will be uninsured at the scheduled location.
  • Related restrictions include the Theft Exclusion (CP 10 33) and the Sprinkler Leakage Exclusion (CP 10 56).
