What it does
CG 20 13 adds the scheduled governmental body as an additional insured only for hazards connected with premises the named insured owns, rents or controls and for which the body issued a permit: the existence, maintenance, repair, construction, erection or removal of advertising signs, awnings, canopies, cellar entrances, coal holes, driveways, manholes, marquees, hoist away openings, sidewalk vaults, street banners or decorations and similar exposures; the construction, erection or removal of elevators; and the ownership, maintenance or use of covered elevators.
Who needs it
Retailers, restaurants, building owners and others with permitted encroachments on public sidewalks or streets.
Key provisions and limits
- Schedule names the governmental body.
- Coverage applies only to the extent permitted by law.
- Contract-based limits: coverage is no broader than any contract requires, the most paid for the additional insured is the lesser of the contract-required amount or the policy limits, and the endorsement does not increase limits.
Quoting and selling notes
- Read the permit wording: municipalities often require AI status as a permit condition and ask for a certificate.
- For operations performed under a permit (rather than premises features), use CG 20 12.
