What it does
CA 23 13 is the limited trailer interchange option. Where the Motor Carrier Endorsement CA 23 30 schedules comprehensive, collision and specified causes of loss on interchanged trailers, CA 23 13 is used to provide only fire, or fire and theft, coverage. The Massachusetts residual market manual states the split directly: CA 23 30 "provides Comprehensive, Collision and Specified Causes of Loss Coverage. To provide only Fire and Fire and Theft Coverage use" CA 23 13.
The current multistate edition is 10 13; the 12 93 edition is still used in some programs, including Massachusetts.
Who needs it
Carriers whose interchange agreements make them responsible only for fire or theft, or that want a lower-cost option when collision exposure to interchanged trailers is minimal.
Quoting notes
Premium depends on whether insurance on the insured's own trailers continues while they are in others' possession; the Massachusetts manual charges no additional premium for an even interchange where owned-trailer coverage ceases. Compare the agreement's liability clause with the coverage chosen.
