What it does

CA 20 18 adds three exclusions to Covered Autos Liability on the business auto form:

  • bodily injury resulting from providing or failing to provide any medical or other professional services;
  • bodily injury resulting from food or drink furnished with those services; and
  • bodily injury or property damage resulting from the handling of corpses.

Who sees it

Rating manuals call for it on ambulance services, fire departments, funeral directors and law enforcement agencies, so the professional exposure goes to professional or medical malpractice coverage rather than the auto policy.

Selling notes

For ambulance and medical transport clients, confirm that professional liability (EMT malpractice) is in place, because the auto policy will not respond to treatment errors in the vehicle. Funeral homes need professional liability that addresses the handling of remains.
