What it does

Drive-away contractors deliver vehicles (new trucks, RVs, buses) by driving them under transporter or dealer plates. CA 20 05 provides only the coverages for which a premium is shown and makes any auto the insured does not own a covered auto while driven with the plates described in the schedule, but only while it is driven by or for the insured from its distribution point to its destination. Liability is rated on the number of plates; comprehensive, collision and specified causes of loss are rated on estimated annual gross receipts with limits stated in the declarations.

Who needs it

Drive-away services, vehicle delivery contractors and manufacturers' delivery operations moving vehicles under their own power.

Quoting notes

Collect the plate count, annual gross receipts, typical vehicle values and trip lengths. Federal motor carrier rules may apply to interstate drive-away operations; check whether the operation needs FMCSA authority and filings.
