What it does

BP 08 03 extends Section II – Liability to bodily injury, property damage and personal and advertising injury arising out of rendering or failing to render professional services in connection with optical or hearing aid services, including preparation, fitting, demonstration or distribution of ophthalmic lenses and similar products or hearing aid devices. For that coverage it removes the professional services exclusion and certain damage to property and damage to your work exclusions.

Key provisions

  • The practice of optometry – including prescribing ophthalmic lenses – is excluded; optometrists need professional liability.
  • Who Is An Insured is amended for employees performing these services.

Who needs it

Optical shops and hearing aid stores on a BOP whose staff (licensed opticians or hearing aid specialists) fit and dispense devices.

Quoting and selling notes

  • Ask whether an optometrist practices on site and whether that practitioner has separate malpractice coverage.
  • Illinois uses its own version (BP 08 52).
