What it does
BP 06 49 is the theft counterpart to BP 04 30. When it is attached, the named insured must maintain the automatic burglary alarm or other automatic system listed in its Schedule, and the system must be actively engaged and kept in the "on" position during all non-work hours and whenever the premises are unoccupied.
Who needs it
Underwriters use it for theft-attractive occupancies and whenever a burglar alarm credit or a central-station alarm was a condition of writing the account: jewelers, liquor stores, pharmacies, electronics and cell phone stores, firearms and similar.
Key provisions
- The Schedule identifies the premises and the system required.
- Failure to keep the system working and armed as required can defeat a theft claim, so the condition matters as much as the limit.
Quoting and selling notes
- Confirm the alarm type and monitoring before binding and get the certificate if the carrier asks for one.
- Remind the insured to arm the system every night and to report outages to the carrier.
