A market-exit wave: carriers are leaving books behind while re-pricing what’s left.

April’s defining move wasn’t a rate — it was the exits. New York CMP, a California BOP block, and a countrywide medical stop-loss line all came off the board, even as commercial auto kept climbing and ISO advisories reset coastal floors.

Northeast Exit

NJM led commercial auto (8% book, heavy trucks +18.4%), but the headline was Community Mutual non-renewing 25,031 New York CMP policyholders into a hardening market. Selective’s New Jersey additional-insured endorsement jumped 150% across a 27,970-policy book.

Southeast ISO floor

Travelers’ Georgia auto led (+16.8%, heavy truck ~29%) with Selective and Utica close behind, while Hiscox reset Virginia property-management GL +50%. An ISO South Carolina BOP advisory reset the coastal package floor with Touchstone v11 hurricane modeling.

Midwest / NW Coverage cut

Cincinnati’s Kansas auto led (+18%, buses +97.5%) and Auto-Owners moved a 52,155-policy Kansas GL book +15%, but coverage contraction dominated — a countrywide medical stop-loss exit plus lead, asbestos, EV and PFAS exclusions. Driver-level scoring is now standard in for-hire trucking.

National Recap — The Big Picture

Cross-Region Patterns

The exit wave

New York CMP (25,031), a California BOP block, GuideOne artisan books and a countrywide stop-loss line all left the market — displaced accounts are shopping into a hard market.

ISO advisories reset the floor

A South Carolina BOP advisory (Touchstone v11) and earlier cyber forms reset baseline pricing and coverage for every adopting carrier.

Strip coverage while raising rates

Trucking carriers paired big increases with new exclusions (occupant, bobtail, Any-Auto bans) — the policy got smaller as the price got bigger.

Caps on, caps off

Some carriers removed renewal caps (Hiscox) while others added them (CNA, State Farm) — both moves signal true need well above the filed average.

Coverage & structural watch

Market exits (8)

NY CMP (25,031), a CA BOP block, GuideOne artisan books and a countrywide medical stop-loss line all came off the board.

Coverage contraction (91 filings)

Trucking carriers added occupant, bobtail and Any-Auto exclusions; lead, asbestos, EV and PFAS exclusions spread across package and GL.

Advisory & scoring (24 filings)

ISO reset coastal package floors (SC, Touchstone v11) and rewrote cyber forms; CARFAX/TransUnion vehicle scoring deepened in for-hire trucking.
